About Us

Plastic partnership exists to prevent post consumer plastic entering the ocean while creating jobs and equal opportunities for its citizens. We set out with the goal of educating local communities on how to reduce consumption of plastic while learning to see it as a valuable commodity from which they can earn money.

The Problem

Ghana’s water can be unsafe to drink and as a result, the majority of it’s 30 million population drink daily from single use plastic bottles. Its capital Accra alone generates over 2,000 tons of plastic waste daily and with a lack of effective municipal curbside waste collection a lot ends up in waterways, the ocean and landfills or is burned.

Post consumer plastic is one of the most durable substances made by man, left alone it takes up to 450 years to decompose and when decomposed as microplastic it is likely to end up in the ocean or be consumed by animals which in turn are eaten by us.

We are passionate and relentless in an our fight against post consumer plastic and believe that everybody can play a part in helping to improve conditions for the current and next generations.

Plastic partnership was created in record time using Agile techniques to deliver value faster. We are proud to have created a business that provides a living wage for our 35 employees, and activities that provide livelihoods for over 115 third party waste picker.
